Today we celebrated “National Random Acts of Kindness Day” with the children. This particular celebration started in 1995 by non for profit organisation called the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation in Denver, Colorado and spread worldwide by 2004. The concept of this day is to create feelings of kindness and cheer up someone’s day.
During our morning group time we read the story Kindness Grows by Britta Teckentrup and discussed ways we could be kind toward others, in particular with our words and actions. We have a special kindness tree where children can add a special heart to the tree when they have done something kind for someone else such as helping a friend or a teacher in the classroom.
As a way for the children to “create feelings of kindness and cheer up someone’s day” in the wider community, we invited the children to create “kindness rocks” to distribute around the local area. We have discussed with the children that they could place their kindness rock in a community garden, playground, cafe window or just on the pavement as they go for a walk. We are hoping these rocks bring a smile to someone else and support the children in building compassion, kindness and care toward others. ... See MoreSee Less
